Right now, childcare-related employee turnover and absenteeism costs North Carolina’s employers $4.29 billion every year. What’s more: our state is missing out on an additional $1.36 billion annually in tax revenue because of the lack of affordable and accessible childcare options. Together, this means that the childcare crisis is costing North Carolina more than $5.65 billion per year in economic activity.
Additionally, in the first seven months of 2025 alone, Eastern North Carolina experienced a net loss of 17 child care programs and 210 child care slots. Child care challenges also cost Onslow County employers more than $63.7 million per year and a $18.9 million loss in annual tax revenue.
This is not how we set our state, our businesses, and our children up for success. ExCEL NC is looking to change that.
At this event, we’ll tackle this issue head-on. You’ll be joined by other business leaders in Onslow County to discuss the economic and workforce impacts of the child care crisis, possible public policy solutions, and how the business community can drive statewide change.
